builder/architect magazine

Posted by admin under: building and remodeling.

I’m the photographer for Builder/Architect Magazine.

What a gig!  I started working with the new publisher Keith Monen for the Builder/Architect magazine.  As you might guess, it’s a trade magazine for oregon and southern washington builders, remodelers, and architects.  The winter edition is off at the printer, and should be in hand in the next week or so.  Here’s a couple pics from the shoot

you can take the girls out of jr high, but…….

You can’t take jr high out of the girls

I have 1 friend who sells a line of skincare and makeup called Arbonne, and another friend who owns a shop called Vestiges that sells a combination of collectibles, hand crafts, resale and vintage items. So we thought what could be more fun than doing makeovers, trying on vintage clothing, and taking before and after photos, all in one happy event.

Well the girls had a good time!

Is there a way to do this where we could make money, hmm…… we’re noodling it.

PDX Home Improvement & Remodeling Show

Posted by admin under: building and remodeling.

As a new member of the ORA (Oregon Remodelers Association) I got to attend the recent Home Improvement & Remodeling Show, as one of 3 judges for the vendor booths. It was great to see all the different booths – all 300 and something – and get a glimpse of the various products and services.

I definitely earned my keep that evening. 300 vendors over 4 hours of judging meant 48 seconds per booth! whew, no wonder my feet hurt. But well worth it.

If I have any advice for vendors for next time, it would be to make sure your company name is clearly displayed in your booth. As judges, there were some booths where we couldn’t tell who the business was, or they had product name signs that were more front and center.

If you weren’t able to make it this year, be sure to go next……

artsy portraits

Posted by admin under: Uncategorized.

I did some portrait work last week for a woman who does consulting work. She’s an attractive photogenic woman and I was pleased with the results. I was going for a straightforward look for business purposes.

As it turned out, she wanted something a little more on the artsy side, so that gave me a chance to play around in photoshop with some of the different filters and settings. I got some that were pretty fun, and she was pleased.

So I only made about 3 bucks an hour on the job, but hey, I learned some new tricks – always a good thing.

I was also out doing a virtual tour in West Linn. It was a large property – 23 acres with footage along the tualatin. Again, i learned some stuff. I added a satellite map from google to point out the 2 meadows, and river, and house.

I’ve got a couple more real estate jobs this week, I’m still trying to connect with builders and remodelers to develop some regular gigs like arciform…..

thats all for now

photo shoot with Mrs Oregon

Posted by admin under: Uncategorized.

I met with Ladies who Launch members Katie Johnson and Cindy Aggson yesterday to do a photo shoot with Mrs Oregon who is endorsing Katies product. Katie owns “Kix by Katie” which makes a product that prevents that awful wardrobe malfunction “the heel-wedgie” where your pants get caught in the back of your shoes

It was a little chilly of a day but very fun. Katies niece Abby joined us who is a model in the making and helped us get some good fun shots.

It was interesting to try to get shots that featured the people – in particular the company owner and Mrs Oregon – but also making sure that attention was drawn to the heels.

virtual tours, what are they

Posted by admin under: Uncategorized.

Most people are familiar with virtual tours from real estate. They’re a great way to get a 360 degree look at the inside of houses.
I think they are a great tool for business websites. it’s a way for customers to get a look at your store or studio on-line – give them a reason to want to come a see the place.

I just did photos and a tour for Arciform, a local portland remodeling company specializing in pre WWII homes. I’ve done 5 tours for them that are about to go live on their website (the ones currently there are from their previous tour provider)

Photos, Phood, and Phun, oh my

Posted by admin under: Uncategorized.

Michelle and Jen, the lovely ladies from Table Talk Portland, and I got together this last sunday to get some photos for their website they’re working on. They do restaurant reviews – they’re foodie-obsessive types, high energy and fun

This shoot was a lot of fun because I got to do different kinds of shots, people and spaces. And Jen and Michelle are happy energetic gals. www.tabletalkportland.com

I don’t know yet which of the photos will get used but here’s a couple of my favorites. The first one is potentially a banner photo – the logo will get added to the whitespace.

The second one obviously is Jen and Michelle.

Check out my website for more photos and prices www.photoartportraits.com . It’s also getting a face-lift and some optimization, stay tuned…..
